Sample of Business Travel Requirements for a Russia Visa for Canadian Citizens

  1. Passport

    You must provide your actual signed passport, including one copy of the personal information pages of your passport. Your passport must:

    • Contain at least two blank visa pages for the visa stamp
    • Be valid for six months beyond the validity of your requested visa

  2. Photographs

    You must provide one colour, passport type photograph that meets the following criteria:

    • Be professionally taken within the last three months and printed on high quality photo paper
    • Be taken against an all white background free of shadows
    • Be 35mm by 45mm in size
    • Provide the full frontal view of your head with your face centered in the middle, displaying a neutral (non-smiling) expression, and showing your shoulders
    • You may wear neither glasses nor headwear except for religious purposes
    • Your photo should not be affixed to your application and it may not display evidence of adhesive or staples
    • Your photo must bear a date stamp on the reverse

  3. Russia Business Invitation Letter

    You must obtain an official Russian Business Invitation Letter to travel to Russia.  The organization you are visiting in Russia is responsible for obtaining the invitation from the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.  The letter must:

    • Include the dates and length of your stay
    • Include the full local address of the organization you will be visiting
    • Specify the number of entries and duration of validity that you are requesting in your visa application
    • Be original (unless a TELEX invite was issued).

  4. Visa Application Form

    The Russian Embassy has instituted a web-based visa application form. The application must be completed online by all travelers, and can be found at https://visa.kdmid.ru/PetitionChoice.aspx. This application, hosted by the Russian government, may take up to an hour to complete and requires very detailed information. Please read the VisaCentral Russian Visa Application Guide included in this kit before you begin the online Russia visa application form. Your visa request cannot be processed if you do not complete the application form online. Your completed application must:

    • Provide answers for all fields (handwritten changes are not accepted)
    • Include your name as it appears in your passport
    • Show that you selected Visa Application Center (Ottawa) to process your application
    • Include the institution or organization in Russia to be visited
    • Be signed inside the box found directly below the section where we will attach your photograph
    • Be printed single-sided
    • Include complete answers for visa application question #25. Failure to complete this question properly will result in the Russian Consulate rejecting your visa application.You must include a list of all of the countries that you have visited in the last 10 years and for which an immigration stamp was placed into your passport. If you require additional space, you may attach a list of the remaining countries on a sheet of paper.

  5. VisaCentral Order Form

    You must provide one completed VisaCentral Order Form. The form must:

    • Include a valid email address and payment information
    • Include your signature in blue or black ink

  6. Former Soviet and Russian Citizens

    Russian law stipulates that citizens of the Russian Federation must travel on valid Russian documents regardless of any other citizenship. All former citizens of USSR, or citizens that immigrated from the Soviet Union or the Russian Federation before February 6th, 1992 must submit one of the following documents confirming that they are no longer citizens of the Russian Federation:

    • "Visa to Israel" or "Permanent residence abroad" stamp
    • Official document certifying that their Russian citizenship was renounced or photocopy of USSR passport
    • All applications requiring proof of renounciation must be accompanied by a cover letter stating the date that you renounced your Russian citizenship
    • You must also provide a copy of your Landed Immigrant Papers.  These are documents that were provided when you arrived/landed in Canada

    If the aforementioned documents arer not submitted, applications cannot be accepted or processed.

  7. No Previous Employment History

    If you do not have any previous employment history prior to your current position, then you will have to complete and sign the No Previous Employment Letter found in this application kit.

  8. Quebec Resident Surcharge

    Visa applications submitted by Quebec residents are subject to a C$125.00 surcharge.

  9. Optional Document Preparation Service

  6. Russian Tourist Visa Support Letter

    A Russian Tourist Visa Support Letter is required. VisaCentral can provide you the Visa Support Letter if your tour/cruise operator or hotel cannot do so. Please complete the attached request form and a color scan of your passport's information pages, along with all other visa requirements. 

    If you are providing your own Visa Support Letter then ensure that your Letter is accompanied by the confirmation page showing that your Russian host or hotel is registered with the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

  7. Hotel Confirmation

    You must provide proof of hotel accommodations for stays longer than 2 weeks. Details of your hotel accommodations must include both of the following:

    • A confirmation of your hotel reservation provided directly from the hotel
    • Proof of payment for your hotel confirmation

  8. Letter of Intent

    You must provide a brief letter to "The Embassy of the Russian Federation" explaining the intent of your travel to Russia. The letter must be signed. Your letter must include:

    • Purpose of your trip
    • Dates and length of your stay
    • Address of your place of stay during your time in Russia
    • Full name of your host in Russia if you will be staying with someone

  9. Double Entry Visa Applicants

    Double-entry visa requests must be accompanied by a copy of your travel itinerary. These visas will only be granted to those who will be exiting to and entering from continuous neighboring countries: Finland, China, Estonia, Latvia, Belarus, Ukraine, Georgia, Kazakhstan or Mongolia.

  10. Entry Date Into Russia

    There must be a minimum three-business day gap between the issue date of your visa and your actual entry to Russia. Please plan and apply for your visa accordingly as you will not be allowed entry to Russia without this gap.

     

  11. Former Soviet and Russian Citizens

    Russian law stipulates that citizens of the Russian Federation must travel on valid Russian documents regardless of any other citizenship.   12. Trips Longer Than 30 Days

  13. Cruise Passengers

    Travelers embarking on a cruise while in Russia must provide a copy of their cruise itinerary.

  14. Quebec Resident Surcharge

    Visa applications submitted by Quebec residents are subject to a C$125.00 surcharge.

  15. No Previous Employment History
