Do I have to send you my passport to get a Dominican Republic visa? Is it safe to send a passport?
Yes. You will need to send your actual passport, not a copy of it. The Dominican Republic visa is stamped on your passport and will become one of your passport pages. Visa request cannot be processed without your original passport. Because of the importance of your passport, we strongly suggest that you send your application in a secure way, using a traceable courier such as FedEx.

Sample of Business Travel Requirements for a Dominican Republic Visa for Canadian Citizens

  1. Passport

    You must provide your actual signed passport, including one copy of the personal information page of your passport. Your passport must:

    • Be valid for the next six months
    • Have at least one blank visa page
    • Not be frayed, torn, separating, or altered in any other way
    You must also include a photocopy of all stamped pages in your passport

  2. Photographs

    You must provide one colour, passport-type photograph. The photograh must:

    • Be taken within the last six months, against a white background and printing on photo paper
    • Be 30 mm x 30 mm
    • Be signed and dated on the back

  3. Business Cover Letter

    You are required to provide a Business Introduction Letter from your Canadian-based company. All letters must be printed on company letterhead that displays an Canadian mailing address. Use the sample Business Introduction Letter provided at https://visacentral.ca/forms?formname=Canada-Business-Cover-Letter-Sample.pdf using the exact language and format provided in order to prevent a rejection and possible delays with your visa request.

  4. Letter of Invitation

    A letter of invitation from the company that you will be visiting is required. The letter must:

    • Be written on company letterhead
    • Include the dates and length of your stay
    • Include your name as printed your passport
    • Include the full local address and phone number of the company or organization to be visited
    • Indicate the exact purpose of your business trip

  5. Visa Application Form

    You must provide one completed visa application form. The application form must:

    • Display your full name as it appears in your passport
    • Be signed

  6. VisaCentral Order Form

    You must provide one completed VisaCentral Order Form. The form must:

    • Include a valid email address and payment information
    • Include your signature in blue or black ink

  7. Proof of Sufficient Funds

    You must provide proof that you possess sufficient funds. Your financial details must include a bank letter specifying the following:

    • Date the savings or checking account was opened
    • Annual average or balance maintained in the account
    • Date of the last deposit

  8. Letter of Guarantee

    You must provide an original letter of guarantee. The letter must:

    • Be in Spanish 
    • Be issued by an institution duly registered in the Dominican Republic
    • Certify the applicant’s moral and economic conditions and that they will be accountable for living expenses and the applicant will not request other visas or status while in Dominican Republic.
    • Be signed in front of a Notary Public with two witnesses, and then certified by the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic (known as Procuraduría General de la República).

    Travellers applying for a business visa for the first time are not eligible for a multiple entry visa and will be issued a single entry visa

  9. Proof of Travel Arrangements

    You must provide proof of travel arrangements for the duration of your trip.  Details of your intended arrangements must:

    • Include a copy of an itinerary or e-ticket showing entry and exit date
    • Show your full name as printed in your passport

  10. Multiple Entry Visa Applicants

    If you are applying for a multiple entry business visa, you must provide a Police Clearance Certificate from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) or the local police.

Sample of Tourist Travel Requirements for a Dominican Republic Visa for Canadian Citizens

  1. Visa Exempt

    A visa is not required for this destination for up to 30 days. Please keep in mind that while a visa is not required, you must:

    • Hold a Tourist Card to visit the Dominican Republic. The Tourist Card is a government fee to visit the country and is included in the applicant's flight ticket. An extension is possible.
    • Hold a passport valid for at least six months with at least one blank visa page
    • Hold proof of onward and return flights
    • Hold all documents required for the next destination
    • Hold proof of sufficient funds relative to your intended length of stay
    • Confirm with their airline that boarding will be permitted without a visa as these conditions are subject to change
